Gloucester County, VA Professional Review and Guide

"There are numerous historic sites and markers throughout Gloucester County’s bucolic countryside. The key to getting around is learning the different place names – and being sure to pronounce it “Gloss-ter” should you get lost and need directions. The “Courthouse” is the county’s historic district, with a Court Green dating to the mid-1700s, and quaint shops lining the main street.

Today, the Point is home to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, a ground-breaking marine science school affiliated with the College of William & Mary. While farming and fishing remain important vocations in Gloucester County, the area is increasingly becoming a bedroom community to the growing Hampton Roads area, with lots of houses where farms once stood and shopping centers springing up along the main highway, Route 17. For most residents, however, the quiet rural life is still the norm. Visitors can tap into it by taking their time meandering throughout the countryside. This eTrail provides detailed information on sights, events, entertainment, shopping, dining, accommodations, and transportation in this area of Virginia."
