Waterfalls of the Shenandoah National Park Region, North District

Waterfalls of the Shenandoah National Park Region, North District Professional Review and Guide

"One of America’s most popular national parks, with nearly two million visitors annually, Shenandoah National Park is also one of the skinniest. The park lies atop the northern Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains and ranges in width from about a mile to about 13 miles. Along the crest is the 105-mile Skyline Drive, offering access to all the facilities and passing by scenic overlooks of the piedmont to the east and of Shenandoah Valley and Massanutten Mountain to the west. Facilities include campgrounds, picnic areas, visitor centers, and modern lodges with restaurants. Over 500 miles of hiking trails, many open to horse travel, provide visitors the opportunity to get away from the crowds.

The park is a wonderful vacation destination, and it has the highest concentration of accessible waterfalls in Virginia. There aren’t necessarily more waterfalls in the park than in other areas, but because it is a national park it is much more explored and mapped, and most of its waterfalls are known. This eTrail covers 4 waterfalls in this region including Lands Run Falls, Overall Run Falls, Lower Falls of Overall Run, and Waterfall on Piney Branch."

This waterfall is not accesable by the route shown on the map. I know because I live there. You have to travel through private property by this route which is not open to the public. It is accessable from Thompson Hollow Rd which takes you into the park. It has 2 waterfalls that are worth seeing in the spring. Yours Truely, Shenandoah River Rat
