Motts Run Reservoir

Motts Run Reservoir Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Escape the crowds along the shore of Lake Anna, the park’s main draw, by following this loop through mostly hardwood forest, past scenic rivulets, and alongside an inlet of the lake. Take the optional balloon spur, and you’ll cover 9 of the park’s 13 trail miles. Most are multiuse, so expect a trail scarred by horse hooves in wet spots.

The trail network at Motts Run Reservoir serves the threefold aim of this 860-acre city park, which fuses outdoor recreation with environmental education and habitat preservation. In a scenario familiar to Virginia hikers (see Beaverdam and Walnut Creek parks, among others), the City of Fredericksburg elected to open a nature park on the shores of its recently completed reservoir in 1974."
