Cumberland State Forest Professional Review and Guide
"Cumberland State Forest is situated in the heart of Virginia, just 35 miles west of Richmond and only a half-hour's drive from Farmville. Its nearly 17, 000 acres of flat-to-rolling terrain are filled with forest roads, dead-end trails, and dirt paths. Many of the dirt roads lead you through scenic hardwood and pine forests and past the natural habitats of deer, turkey quail, squirrels, rabbits, and raccoons.
The areas that are absent of trees have been harvested by the state and sold as timber. The bare spots have been replanted, however, and will be closely monitored in the years to come. Cyclists are welcome on all the dirt forest roads to explore the forest's bounty. Trail Surface: Flat to rolling dirt roads, singletrack around Bear Lake, and doubletrack trail segments."
