Rapidan River

Rapidan River Professional Review and Guide

"Heavily damaged by hurricanes in the mid-90s, Rapidan River is recovering. Good fishing for jewel-like native brook trout in upper reaches. Not a big fish river. Among anglers of Mid-Atlantic country, the Rapidan is a favorite, as it was with presidents and, still, members of Congress.

The allure is not big trout, but wild brookies found high on the flanks of the Blue Ridge within the Shenandoah National Park. You’ll find your trout with a healthy dose of history for it’s here that Herbert Hoover, a trout fisher, built a presidential retreat in the late 1920s. Camp Hoover is still maintained and occasionally used by members of Congress. Species: Brook. Angling methods: fly-fishing only."

The Rapidan river is a great place for brook trout but unfortunately I think that it's a little overrated. People flock to the Rapidan but unfortunately thats the problem there are a ton of people. I would recommend it as one of those rivers that you should fish before you die but if you don't, then you'll be okay.
