Dry Run

Dry Run Professional Review and Guide

"This ride's general location is the northern end of Covington. Scenery includes beautiful stands of mountain laurel along Dry Run and views of neighboring peaks. As you begin pedaling on this ride from the end of Cypress Street in Covington onto Dry Run Road (FS 339), you'll find it hard to believe that Dry Run's rushing waters and lush growths of mountain laurel and sassafras will quickly replace the sulfurous smells emanating from Westvaco's smokestacks, but that's exactly what happens.

The two-and-a-half-mile, technical double-track descent on Dry Run Trail is guaranteed to keep you grinning for weeks. Most riders of average fitness levels and bike handling skills could do this as a one-way trip, but anyone planning to do a 20-mile round-trip should be intermediate or better-and have a more-than-adequate supply of spare tubes."
