Three Lakes Triple Loop Professional Review and Guide
"Combine this short trek with a visit to the elaborate nature center here at Three Lakes Park. The nature center, which overlooks the middle lake of the three impoundments, focuses on the plants and animals of the area and includes a freshwater aquarium. After your tour, do the triple loop, circling around each of the three watery destinations on easy level paths. Talk about turning a lemon into lemonade! The lakes of the park and around which this hike travels were borrow pits. The fill from these pits was used on site work for I-95 back in the 1950s. So what was once literally “the pits” is now a scenic destination where we can hike and learn more about the nature of central Virginia. I can only wish the park were bigger and the trails a little longer. However, if the hike seems a little short for you, make the circuit a second time. Two of the three lakes allow fishing."
