Lake Anna State Park

Lake Anna State Park Professional Review and Guide

"The interlaced trails at Hickory Hollow traverse a hilltop pine–hardwood forest, descend to marshy Cabin Swamp along the Corrotoman River drainage, and trace a gurgling brook though tunnels of laurel. You may find the latter stint reminiscent of the mountains—appropriate given that botanists have identified plants here found nowhere outside the Blue Ridge.

Escape the crowds along the shore of Lake Anna, the park’s main draw, by following this loop through mostly hardwood forest, past scenic rivulets, and alongside an inlet of the lake. Take the optional balloon spur, and you’ll cover 9 of the park’s 13 trail miles. Most are multiuse, so expect a trail scarred by horse hooves in wet spots."
