Blue Suck Falls

Blue Suck Falls Professional Review and Guide

"This ride's general location is 40 miles southwest of Lexington. Scenery includes Lake Douthat, waterfalls, and dense hemlock woods with wild blueberries. The name of this loop at Douthat State Park is enough to pique the curiosity of most riders.

However, the additional attraction of riding one of the area's finest downhill single-track sections is no turnoff either. Intermediate and advanced beginners will find this a memorable biking experience."

"This great hike in Douthat State Park should definitely be coupled with nearby Stony Run Falls, either as a separate hike or a loop. About the name: no one at the state park that I talked to knew where the name came from or how long the waterfall has been called that. The best guess the park information person could muster is that a "suck" was local usage for a small stream years ago. That could be true, but I can't find any other sucks on a map of the area. Blue Suck Falls: one of a kind!

You can hike Stony Run Falls and Blue Suck Falls together by using the Locust Gap Trail to link the two. Pick up a map at the park visitor center to explore that possibility."

Had a great time. Douthat Park is in pristine shape with great terrain. One of my favorite trail runs.
