Poor Farm Park

Poor Farm Park Professional Review and Guide

"This ride's general location is 5 miles west of Ashland. Scenery includes shady hardwoods along the edge of a large suburban park. This ride is a great introduction to the world of technical single-track for experienced novices; intermediate and expert riders can work to improve speed and technique. Poor Farm's 13 miles of single-track are mostly short, steep ups and downs around Stagg Creek, as you'll quickly discover when you start riding.

The maze of trails forms a large loop with the possibility of smaller loops depending on the most recent opening and closure of sections of single-track. New trails are added frequently. Less demanding single-track can be found leading off the parking area behind the amphitheater. The area's more technical challenges include rocky climbs, log crossings, and some pretty quick ups and downs around Stagg Creek."

In my opinion, this is one of the better mountain bike trails in the Richmond area. I am an intermediate novice and there were lengthy trails that fit my abilities as well as "ups and downs" that stretched me. The trails are well laid out with diverse obstacles (roots, rocks, narrow bridges and log crossovers. I also enjoyed biking the paths that bordered the soccer fields in this city park of Ashland.

awesome singletrack trail. it is confusing because the trails do tangle together, but that is what makes it fun. as you do loops around the track, spontaneously choosing tracks makes it more interesting than having only one option. great for training. anyone interested in riding in the richmond area give a holler. i attent RMC. phughes@rmc.edu --Jay/ Scott Scale 40

Nice tight fast single track. A bit confusing as the trails criss cross one another quite a bit. Helps if you go with someone who has a good knowledge of the park. Didnt make it to the other side of the creek so cant comment on those yet. Will definately return to explore some more.
