Hop Valley Zion National Park

Hop Valley (Zion National Park) Professional Review and Guide

"A backpack from Kolob Reservoir Road through the Hop Valley to La Verkin Creek. This trail begins in the sage flat atop the Kolob Terrace and then descends through the narrow dale of the Hop Valley before dropping to the banks of La Verkin Creek.

The trail is hot and dusty in the summer, with lots of deep sand along the upper portions of the route that will make gaiters a welcome complement to your footwear."

We hiked the Hop Valley trail to Kolob Arch, camped at a campsite 1/2 mile from the Arch and then hiked La Verkin Creek trail...the Hop Valley trail was much prettier....you go through about 2 miles of desert and then you hit an area that looks like the "Promise Land"...right before our campsite we descended down some switchbacks about 1000 ft....we had a late start so we hiked the descent in the dark...now that was "fun"...in the morning, we hiked to Kolob Arch...save your time and energy...the La Verkin Creek stint of our backcountry trip...the scenery wasn't as beautiful as the Hop Valley trail...your last water source is at campsite #5 and once you get to campsite #1 you have about a hour an a half to go...the last hour is uphill...if I was to do this trail again, I would do La Verkin first and end with Hop Valley.
