Red Cloud Loop

Red Cloud Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Nowadays, everyone knows Vernal is the heart of Dinosaurland. But beyond “Dino,” which adorns nearly every cafe, motel, and gift shop, Vernal is a hub from which radiates a variety of summertime activities. In addition to Dinosaur National Monument and white-water rafting on the Green River, mountain biking is gaining a slow but steady stronghold. Vernal may not have world-class singletrack—the trails crossing the Uinta’s high country are best suited for boots or horses—but a network of backcountry roads transport fat-tire enthusiasts through a scenic montage that is decidedly northeastern Utah.

The Red Cloud Loop takes you across the slopes of the Uinta Mountains through pine forests and across alpine meadows. Then you’ll descend off the mountain and enter sandstone canyons that enclose fertile valleys. Tread: Gravel roads and rock studded doubletracks with a few miles of pavement at the end."
