Cathedral Valley

Cathedral Valley Professional Review and Guide

"This 65-mile loop is a grand outing, but one that only the fittest riders should attempt in one day, and even then only in the best of weather conditions. Aerobically, the ride is moderate in difficulty, assuming you don’t try it in one day (which would jack it up to most difficult); technically, it’s easy, over generally smooth roads of sand, bentonite, and compacted sediments.

Early in the ride, as you twist your way north/northwestward, going generally uphill, you’ll earn great views of the upper end of the Waterpocket Fold, where it collides with Thousand Lake Mountain. After that, the stunning scenery just keeps coming and keeps changing. To close the loop, you’ll ride seven miles along paved UT 24. General location: The ride begins just east of Capitol Reef National Park along UT 24."
