Lewiston Peak

Lewiston Peak Professional Review and Guide

"The South Fork of Ophir Canyon is a popular spot for ATV and 4x4 enthusiasts, as it is part of the Lion Hill Loop. But in the winter and early spring, the canyon is effectively shut off to wheeled vehicles and becomes a remote place for backcountry ski touring. Two main summits can be achieved from here: Lewiston Peak and the largest mountain in the Oquirrh range, Flat Top. In my opinion, this route is best used when attempting to ski or snowboard Lewiston, while Pole Canyon is a more direct option for Flat Top. But if you’re looking to make a two-summit tour out of your day, then the South Fork of Ophir Canyon is a good option. While Lewiston can be skied all winter, spring is best as driving access becomes easier beyond the unplowed road outside the town of Ophir, especially if conditions (or your vehicle) allow you to drive all the way to the intersection with Halls Basin."
