Though not a showpiece or destination hike, the Watchman Trail, with its trailhead near the Zion Canyon Visitor Center, is a great early-morning leg stretcher—easily accessible from the Watchman Campground and from many of the accommodations in Springdale. It’s a varied route with a mix of riparian and desert vegetation; it also takes you from an alluvial outwash, through a steep-walled canyon, and onto a red-rock desert bench.
