The Watchman Zion National Park

The Watchman ( Zion National Park) Professional Review and Guide

"Climbing into the foothills beneath Bridge Mountain and The Watchman, this short trail begins on a set of wooden steps leading northward up a small knoll. Stay on the main trail, avoiding side trails created by a large population of mule
deer.

The official trail is about 3 feet wide and traverses the base of the first knoll toward the National Park Service residential areas. The vegetation in this area is characterized by a scrub woodland of juniper and piñon pine with sagebrush in the sunny openings."

This is a pretty nice trail with good scenery, but it's not all that strenuous. Good for kids. Remember, July is hot!

I consider myself an advanced hiker but this could be a trail for beginners. For me it was a "physical therapy" hike six weeks after foot surgery, I did it with a surgical boot on one foot. The second half of the trail was fairly level and even. There was a surprisingly rewarding view of Springdale and Lower Zion Canyon from the top despite the relatively small elevation rise. Be sure to do the loop at the very top.
