Angels Landing

Angels Landing Professional Review and Guide

"The trail from here is not for the squeamish or faint of heart as it crosses the top of a thin sandstone fin with high exposure on both sides. Many are content with the view from Scout Lookout and turn around here. For the adventurous, a guide rail with chains aids you across this narrow section for the final 0.25 mile.

Wet or icy conditions make this section of the trail very dangerous. Proceed with care. Once upon Angels Landing, the canyon’s grandeur unfolds in every direction. The view stretches north to the Virgin River Narrows and south, downcanyon, as far as the eye can see."

Trail was very good and views are amazing, particularly at Angel's landiing. The trail was easy till scout's lookout and after that it is little challenging but it's not something you can consider scary or dangerous unless you started becoming careless. You have to really do something stupid to get killed here. For those who have fear of heights, it could be intimidating but no real danger. Go early morning. The narrowest path after scout's lookout is at least 3 to 4 feet and is enough to cross safely. Use chains if needed.

If you go to Zion it's silly not to do this trail even if you only make it as far as Scout Lookout. The trail to that point is paved and although it's a little steep going through Walter's Wiggles the view at the top is worth a little heavy breathing. There are toilets at Scout Lookout so try to keep the trail urine free if you can. The section from Scout Lookout to Angel's Landing is the part everyone talks about with the chains and the steep drop-offs. That section isn't terribly challenging physically but if you have a severe fear of heights it might not be for you. As an outdoorsy kind of guy I found it pretty easy and super fun. And of course the payoff is amazing. Probably the most difficult part of the hike is the traffic. Many sections only have room for people moving one way, so you have to put up with traffic jams and people that don't have good trail manners. But a lack of difficulty for "real hikers" is a poor excuse to give this trip 2 stars (I'm looking at you Robarto). Start early in the morning to beat the crowds and the heat. It took us 3 hours including the shuttle bus ride from the visitor's center.

My friend and I climbed this in a foot of snow without any yaks or anything on our feet. It was extremely difficult and not very smart. We made it and loved the views and the bragging rights of doing it when we shouldn't have. I'll tell you how it goes in the summer.

The first part of this hike takes you uphill on the way to Scouts Landing. There is plenty of uphill to get to this point. Part of the trail before arriving at Scout's Landing goes through Refridgerator Canyon which will give you some relief from the heat just before starting Walter's Wiggles. Once reaching Scouts Landing and seeing what the rest of the trail to the top of Angel's Landing looks like you may be satisfied to stay right there. We did go on to the top and were proud to have made it since I am afraid of heights. After making it back to Scouts Landing I breathed a sigh of relief. It was an awesome hike. Eric and Karen

In my opinion if you are a real hiker like I am, I don't think you should do this hike. It was a great view in the and a fun rock scramble to the top but, still have the hike was paved and there was a rope to help you get you to the vista ( witch I did not use at all). Plus there was way to many people, I mean way! But if you are just an average guy wanting an somewhat hard hike it is great for you. But Zion was not a total bust B/C I did the "narrows". Now that a good hike. P.S the winds up to the landing were REALLY FAST!!! Fun!

I enjoyed this hike more than the narrows, but if you have a fear of heights it might not be for you.

I think it was a good thing we did not know how tough this would be. IOnce we started, we just kept going and made it to the very top. The view was great and the feeling of accomplishment was greater!

I was in Zion in early March and due to frost could not make it past the Scout Lookout. While the description to Angels Landing may look daunting, the trail up to Scout Lookout is well groomed and easy to moderate. Not to be missed by anyone.
