Little Cottonwood Creek Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Like its sister canyon to the north, most people only view Little Cottonwood Creek as pleasant scenery on their way to skiing at Snowbird or Alta ski resorts or on a hike in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. At times, the creek runs close to Highway 210 in the canyon. Key Species: Rainbow trout and cutthroat trout.
The DWR stocks 1,000 rainbow in Little Cottonwood Creek above Snowbird each year. There is, however, little carryover from year to year. Officials believe the problem in Little Cottonwood Creek stems from mine tailings that affect the stream’s ability to sustain fish. Fishing here is poor and will likely only improve if something is done to improve water quality in the canyon. Bait works for rainbows, and fly fishers have some success with dry flies."
