Lott Creek Trails and Pinon - Juniper Hillclimb

Lott Creek Trails and Pinon - Juniper Hillclimb Professional Review and Guide

"The brief yet surprisingly varied ride begins and ends at Castle Rock Campground, which is within the Fishlake National Forest but is also associated with nearby Fremont Indian State Park. It’s an unusually pleasant campgound, with plenty of shade provided by huge aspens, cottonwoods, and ponderosa pines. Just 5.5 miles in length, the ride consists of two short spurs: a 2.5-mile out-and-back up the interesting and technical Lott Creek Trail 051 (1.25 miles each way, climbing about 300 feet); and a 3-mile out-and-back taking you onto the juniper-piñon benchlands overlooking the campground (1.5 miles each way, climbing 400 feet).

The single-track portion is exceptionally pretty, and it dishes up several technical creek crossings. Feel free to ride as far as you can up the trail, but it does get very difficult. It’s a pleasant enough setting that you may choose to ditch your bike and take a hike, a mode of travel for which the trail is better suited. The second, rim-top turnaround, reached after four miles of riding, is an exquisite place to watch the sun go down over the Pahvant and Tushar Mountains."
