With almost four dozen restaurants, 1,200 hotel rooms, movie screens, and businesses galore in the vicinity, State St. and South Towne are part of Sandy City’s modern hub. So, sometimes it might be nice to escape the crowds, right? One way to do that is to stroll the Sandy Rail Trail, just west of the nearby rail line and only 300 yards away from the South Towne Expo Center’s front door. The paved path is part of the much longer Porter Rockwell Trail, named after a legendary gunslinger, a bodyguard to early Mormon leaders Joseph Smith Jr. and Brigham Young. The Sandy Rail Trail portion runs mostly parallel to the TRAX light-rail line.
