The Living Room

The Living Room Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"After a nice hike, what’s better than kicking back in the living room and propping the old feet up with a cool drink? On this hike you get this opportunity even before you hike back down the trail. Just make sure your water bottle has ice in it, and you’ll be set. The Living Room affords a view across the valley to the west, so hikes to watch the sunset are a favorite.

This view can be enjoyed while sitting on chairs and couches built of slabs and resting your feet on stone ottomans. The high-definition view of the valley below is better than anything you’ll get at home. With an easy-access trailhead in the foothills behind the University of Utah, this popular trail sees a lot of traffic. Not too long, and kid appropriate, the whole family can enjoy the fun of this trail."

The Living room is one of the most accessible trails near salt lake. Hike for about 40-50 minutes to the top and relax on the face of the mountain gazing at the entire salt like valley sitting on recliners made from rocks.

I made this hike in early May with my three young daughters. I found the trail well-maintained, a bit steep at the very beginning, but leveling off after a mile or so. Our efforts were rewarded with a truly stunning view of the mountains surrounding us in the second meadow. The trail wove through the meadow, the aspens were just leafing out, and the mountains were dusted with new snow. It was simply gorgeous. Please bring a plastic grocery bag and pick up cans on your way around the loop.

I very interesting hike. Nice shade and beautiful scenery. There are several options off of this trail if you desire to make the hike longer.

See my hike: http://www.housermania.com/Tibble.html The trail guide I used said this was a late May- October trail. Well, I should have believed them... I hiked in the snow for 2/3 of the hike, lost the trail and had to turn back. When it was all said and done I still had a four hour hike in God's most beautiful country. The views on this hike were breathtaking.
