Salt Lake City Foothills

Salt Lake City Foothills Professional Review and Guide

"Lake-effect snow is a strange and wonderful thing. It usually hammers the Cottonwood Canyons, but sometimes the valleys are blessed with a storm that buries Salt Lake City in snowfall measured in feet, not inches. When that happens, the foothills above the city become crowded with a plethora of skiers and snowboarders who swarm the rolling terrain around the Bonneville Shoreline Trail to make turns in their own backyard. It’s a surreal experience to ski deep powder above the state capitol and downtown skyscrapers, and it’s an opportunity not to be missed. While it’s possible to tour from any access point in the city, the Terrace Hills Drive trailhead in the Avenues neighborhood is among the highest and provides quick access to
thousands of acres of terrain. The following describes one such tour, but the route
possibilities are too numerous to include in this book. So just skin up and ski down
wherever you like!"
