Walk-up Lake Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Walk-up Lake is not as easy as its name implies. You don’t want to be in a hurry going through this country. It’s both beautiful and treacherous. But cirque lovers will adore this bowl carved out eons ago when glaciers ruled the High Uintas, and solitude seekers should like this place, since it sees very few visitors.
The easiest (but not easy) route is to first go 1.3 miles to Papoose Lake, almost directly north of Chepeta Lake trailhead. From there, hike northwest another 2.5 miles up steep, rocky slopes and meadows. It is a little tricky picking your way through the boulders, so plan on a little extra time.
Cirque lovers will adore this bowl, carved out eons ago when glaciers ruled the High Uintas. Steep slopes drop sharply into the clear water, which reaches a depth of 55 feet. That’s pretty deep for a lake of only 18 acres."
