Reader Lake Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"You might take a hint from this lake’s name and bring a good book to read. This is a good place to be alone and relax. Reader Lake is no longer managed as a fishery and therefore sees few visitors. Here is a respite for the nonfishing backpacker.
Located at the head of Reader Lakes Basin, Reader Lake offers deluxe camping accommodations for the discriminating solitude seeker. Bubbling water, fresh from a mountain spring, is served up cold with every meal. The lake borders timberline and provides a wonderful alpine ambience, complete with light afternoon thundershowers and warm, inviting sunsets.
OK, OK, so it’s not really as inviting as the travel brochure makes it sound. Reader Lake is subject to the same unpredictable weather, mosquitoes, and hazards as the other 1,000 Uinta lakes. It is better than some and worse than others. However, it is seldom used and is a fine place to shack out for a while and ignore the rest of the world. It’s not always the aesthetic place we have described, but it might be."
