Kings Peak - Utah Highpoint Professional Review and Guide

"Highpoint rank by height: 7th. Kings Peak makes for a really enjoyable multi-day backpacking trip. Don't cheat yourself out of a positive experience by running up to the summit and back to your car in a single day. Ouch!"

Ran to the summit and back in 7 hours. Don't cheat yourself out of a wonderful experience by being slow, out of shape, and unable to get back to your family to get chores done after this wonderful run. Ouch! If you can't tell, I regard the Wingers' editorializing to be pathetic. It would be tolerable if they were competent, but they have given bad instructions to the trailhead, and also mislabeled one of the photos in the book as being of Gunsight Pass when it is not (it is actually a very dangerous pass that the FS does not want people to use). Use one of the other guides on; this one is a loser. As for the hike, it is grand, but the traverse from Gunsight to Anderson is NASTY, with lots of loose rock and a couple of Class 3 moves. If you want a nice stroll, stay on the trails.
