Smithsonian Butte Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Smithsonian Butte Road, a designated national backcountry byway, crosses over the Vermilion Cliffs between Utah 9 and Utah 59. The trail is short and graded road its entire length. It leaves the town of Rockville near the western edge of Zion National Park and immediately crosses the East Fork of the Virgin River on the historic steel girder bridge. Special Attractions: Views over Zion National Park; Grafton ghost town; Designated national backcountry byway.

High-clearance vehicles are preferred, but not necessary. This trail is dirt roads, but may have rocks, grades, water crossings, or ruts that make clearance a concern in a normal passenger vehicle. The trail is fairly wide, so that passing is possible at almost any point along the trail. Mud is not a concern under normal weather conditions."
