Coffee Peak Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This breathtaking spur trail leads off Richfield Pioneer Road. For most of its length it runs across the narrow ridge tops, with sheer drops on one or both sides. The views are awesome; you can see Willow Creek Canyon, Beehive Peak, Chalk Creek Canyon, and Scipio Lake. The trail surface is rough but easily traversable in dry weather. The National Forest Service has realigned one section of the route just after the turn to Pioneer Peak. The realigned track is steep and has loose, deep bulldust, which in wet weather turns into a greasy slide downhill. Returning up this section could be difficult to impossible in adverse weather.
Special Attractions: Spectacular ridge trail with views to the east and west; Mountain peaks of Jacks Peak, Willow Creek Peak, and Coffee Peak; Access to a number of hiking trails. High-clearance 4WDs are preferred, but any high-clearance vehicle is acceptable. Expect a rough road surface; mud and sand are possible but will be easily passable. You may encounter rocks up to 6 inches in diameter, a loose road surface, and shelf roads, though these will be wide enough for passing or will have adequate pull-offs."
