Nine Mile Canyon Back Country Byway

Nine Mile Canyon Back Country Byway Professional Review and Guide

"A 78-mile Type I drive through a scenic sandstone canyon and over high plateaus between Wellington and Myton in central Utah. The 78-mile-long Nine Mile Canyon Back Country Byway climbs over the Book and Roan Cliffs and winds along the floor of a spectacular sandstone canyon past galleries of rock art left by Native American artists more than 1,000 years ago. The canyon is one of the Southwest’s premier locations for rock art. The byway turns north up Gate Canyon from Nine Mile Canyon, and follows Wells Draw down to near Myton.

It also follows the historic Price to Myton Road built by the U.S. Army’s 9th Cavalry in 1886. Special Attractions: Native American petroglyphs, pictographs, and ruins; historic cabins; hiking; primitive camping; bird-watching; wildlife observation. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
