This is not an easy hike, so it is good to keep that in mind if you decide to bring your dog. The cool thing is that you can hike the Aspen Grove Trail as far as you want and turn around at any point, feeling happy about whatever you have accomplished and all the beauty you have seen. Some folks will want to take the trail all the way to Mount Timpanogos, which is longer and more technically challenging and strenuous, or make Emerald Lake the goal, which is the destination my dog and I enjoy. The views, waterfalls, and wildlife are all amazing. The first 3 miles are on a narrow trail, through scrubby brush and small trees. There is so much lush greenery and gorgeous wildflowers. You’ll come to two waterfalls which are quite beautiful. Keep your eye out for wildlife - it is abundant here. If you don't encounter any mountain goats immediately before you, check the surrounding mountain walls around you, where you are sure to see some clinging to the steep rock faces. Moose, marmots, and skunks are also plentiful here. We encountered quite a bit of snow and shimmering Emerald Lake is still partially frozen (it remains that way even through summer), but very beautiful (my pup loves the water).
