Weber County - Willard Peak Professional Review and Guide
"Maybe it’s because a plaque sits atop Ben Lomond. Maybe it’s because Ben Lomond is more pointed, therefore more peak-like. Maybe it’s because all trails lead to Ben Lomond. Perhaps it’s because Ben Lomond served as the model for the Paramount Pictures logo. Willard is 47 feet taller, though. Named after Willard Richards, a counselor to Mormon Church leader Brigham Young, this summit is a long, flat-topped rock outcropping. It is about one mile north of Ben Lomond on the same ridge line.
The Great Salt Lake sits at its front door with sagebrush desert terrain sweeping up the west face to the peak. Its east-facing back door is lush with pines, thick groundcover and 28 varieties of wildflowers. Because of the big body of water to the west, seagulls pinwheel overhead. Hikers reaching the top look down the backbone of the Wasatch, into Nevada, across Cache Valley to Idaho, and southeast to the Uintas."
