Malan’s Peak and Basin Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Pioneer trails dot the Wasatch Range, but this one was formerly a wagon road that switchbacked up the steep mountainside through cool, lush forests of Douglas fir to a resort and pioneer hotel built by the Malan family in the late 1800s. This hike is replete with history, natural springs, great views, and possible camping spots.
The climb to Malan’s Peak provides 360-degree views over Weber Valley to the west; Mount Ogden and Allen Peak to the east; Mount Ben Lomond to the far north; Taylor's Canyon, which you just hiked through; and Waterfall Canyon to the south. The optional spur to Malan’s Basin is only 0.6 mile farther and takes you to where the Malan Heights resort stood from 1893 to 1913."
