Island Lake

Island Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The high Uintas have hundreds of miles of great hiking trails—all dog friendly, all fun, and all beautiful. There are more than 1000 natural lakes in the range, making it difficult to select the “best” hike. The Island Lake Loop Trail is a favorite because it is relatively flat and a nice distance for a day hike, offers diverse scenery, and is accessible from Salt Lake City and Park City while maintaining a feeling of true wilderness. No matter which hikes you choose in the Uintas, you and your dog will not be disappointed. It’s always a good idea to carry raingear when hiking in the Uintas and to be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms."

"“Which Island Lake?” you may ask. Just as there are many Hidden Lakes and Lost Lakes, it seems that every second drainage has an Island Lake. This one sits high on the Provo River Drainage and can be reached fairly easily. The first mile is steep, and the last half mile is steep, but sandwiched between these sections is some easy and level hiking. The trail is quite popular among overnighters, so expect to see a few people, especially on weekends." Read more
