Pole - Summit Pull Professional Review and Guide
"This 19.5-mile ride (18.5-mile loop with a short spur leaving and returning to the campground) is rated aerobically tough, primarily because of the gruelling, 5-mile climb faced at the outset. Amid a redrock setting embellished with pine, fir, and aspen you’ll look up at the bare alpine world of Mount Nebo looming to your left. Its cooling beauty might help take your mind off the broiling climb. (Note: You can avoid the tough climb by doing this as a 12.5-mile point-to-point—from mile 5.5 to mile 18—if you have a shuttle vehicle or don’t mind hitching a ride back to your car.)
The aerobic demands are followed by a technical challenge as you begin negotiating the often rocky and/or cattle-battered, 6.5-mile-long Summit Trail single-track. Once you get on the trail, however, you never lose or gain as much elevation as it appears you might, because it snakes along the ridge top, offering outstanding views as it goes. Try to get an early start, as the ride will probably take a good four hours and the initial climb can get very hot. General location: Eight miles northeast of Nephi."
