Cottonwood Canyon Trail

Cottonwood Canyon Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This long and highly scenic trail commences at the junction of Utah 211 and CR 104 (Beef Basin Road), 7.5 miles northwest of Newspaper Rock State Park. The first few miles pass through private property before the trail enters public land. It proceeds up a valley, with the jagged Bridger Jack Mesa to the west, crosses several small washes, and then runs alongside the deepening North Cottonwood Creek canyon before swinging away to run around the north side of Cathedral Butte.

Special Attractions: Varied scenery from canyon floor to alpine forest; Access to backcountry campsites; Little-used backcountry road provides access to a number of 4WD trails. High-clearance vehicles are preferred, but not necessary. This trail is dirt roads, but may have rocks, grades, water crossings, or ruts that make clearance a concern in a normal passenger vehicle. The trail is fairly wide, so that passing is possible at almost any point along the trail. Mud is not a concern under normal weather conditions."
