Onion Creek, Fisher Towers

Onion Creek, Fisher Towers Professional Review and Guide

"Onion Creek Road is a relaxing drive through a beautiful deepcut canyon. Great camping spots are designated along the route. Portable toilets are required in these spots. Please carry out all trash. Fisher Towers is a popular tourist attraction with spectacular red rock towers reaching 900 ft. in height. Onion Creek Road is a well-maintained road but susceptible to washouts along numerous crossings of Onion Creek. This creek is usually just a trickle but can be deep following heavy rains. The upper section can be slippery and dangerous when wet. The road to Fisher Towers is suitable for passenger cars. Route-finding is extremely easy on both roads.

Your nose will tell you when you pass by Stinking Spring, a sulphur-based natural spring. Soon a sign indicates you are leaving the Colorado River Recreation Area. You’ll begin to climb out of the canyon on a winding road. Be careful here; this part of the road can be very slippery when wet. Continue as long as you feel comfortable, as Onion Creek Road changes to Fisher Valley Road. Make sure you leave all gates as you find them."
