Noriegas Peak

Noriegas Peak Professional Review and Guide

"Of all the summits in the La Sal Mountains, Noriegas Peak is probably the easiest to
get to. A short approach with minimal avalanche exposure makes it an ideal spot for
a quick midwinter tour. Low-angle glade skiing is what’s on the menu, though you can
get crazy on the mountain’s extremely avalanche-prone north face. Also, be prepared
for some major bushwhacking through pucker brush in the lower elevations. This
tour is easy to link with the Corkscrew Glades for an all-day adventure. On the north side of Noriegas Peak is a wide-open bowl that falls back into Brumley Creek. This area is called Noriegas Face, but it’s not recommended at all, despite how tasty it may look. This rock-filled avalanche factory is notorious for being the site of massive slides. Like former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, the face is pockmarked and terrifying. Avoid at all costs."
