La Sal Pass

La Sal Pass Professional Review and Guide

"A great drive for sport utility owners looking for some challenge. La Sal Pass offers close-up views of Mt. Peale, the highest peak in the La Sal Mountains at 12,721 ft. Spur roads take you to Medicine and Beaver Lakes. This trail is suitable for stock high-clearance vehicles when dry but it is steep, rocky, and narrow in places on the west side. Brush comes in contact with sides of vehicle. Wide vehicles may be scratched.

Several places along the trail are often muddy even during periods of dry weather. Do not drive this trail after a prolonged period of wet weather. One talus slope is quite rocky but manageable if you drive slowly. Stay in the middle of the trail and do not disturb the talus slope. The east side is easy and suitable for most passenger cars when dry. Route-finding is easy."
