Gold Bar Rim

Gold Bar Rim Professional Review and Guide

"The first two miles end at an impressive overlook of Gold Bar Canyon, making this a worthwhile trip for stock vehicles especially if combined with other easy and moderate trails in the area. The hard-core portion leads to a bird’s-eye view of the area east of Highway 191, which includes Arches National Park. This trail is commonly driven in the other direction as part three of the popular Poison Spider Mesa/Golden Spike/Gold Bar Rim combination trail. The hard-core crowd often hurries through this trail to beat the setting sun.

Gold Bar Rim is better appreciated if driven independently. This trail starts easy but gradually becomes more difficult as it gains altitude. Stock high-clearance vehicles can negotiate the first two miles before reaching a challenging obstacle. Large tires, excellent articulation and/or lockers are recommended to reach the end of the trail. Route-finding is extremely difficult on the upper portion of this trail. Watch for cairns and scout ahead when in doubt."
