Flat Iron Mesa

Flat Iron Mesa Professional Review and Guide

"This is an easy ride out to a great area for hiking, car camping, and sightseeing. Animal wildlife also abounds out here, so enjoy the company if you are lucky enough to see them. Flat Iron Mesa is a beautiful spot for scenic and wildlife photography as it overlooks Kane Springs Canyon to the north.

Taking hiking shoes is recommended. The hike at the end can be a bit treacherous, if you want to get to the best spots for viewing and photography.

Trail Surface: Sand, loose rock, and bedrock on a well-maintained dirt road."

If you need a very easy non-technical trail to take beginners to this isn't a bad place to go. Technically there is nothing to worry about if you stay on the main road. People without a fitness base may complain about the gently rolling hills, but if you're fit you won't even notice them. There are plenty of cool spurs off the main road the supply some fun technical sections if you get bored with the even terrain of the main road. Basically, if you are even just a moderate biker I wouldn't reccomend this trail because it's really too easy and not that interesting... but if you have first timers with you and you don't want to scare them on their first Moab biking experience. I reccomend this.
