Devils Garden Loop

Devils Garden Loop Professional Review and Guide

"You’ll have a lot of company on this trail, especially in the spring and fall. In summer it’s unbearably hot—actually dangerous if you’re unprepared. Winter’s cold drives away most casual hikers, offering a more solitary experience. Take care on the primitive portion of the hike when snow or ice is on the trail.

A couple of sections have slight exposure and a slip in icy conditions would be dangerous. The trail passes at least nine named natural arches along its course and gives perhaps the best overall hike in the park. The arches themselves are spectacular; the primitive trail section offers an intimate view of the land formations that comprise the area."

This is a beautiful hike through arches. We started at about 7:30AM and didn't see anyone on the primitive trail until Double O arch. You're gonna have company (lots) from Double O back to the parking lot. There's one traicky part where you have to scramble up if you're going counterclockwise. Trust the cairns and you won't have the problems we did. If you get there early, I'd go clockwise and you might get double O and the top of the fin all to yourself. Really cool trail!

Lots of arches of varying shapes and sizes, and terrific views at every turn. This is a must for any moderately fit person visiting Arches. The trail signs warn people with a fear of heights to think twice, but, though heights can make me very nervous indeed, I had no difficulties with this trail at all.

This is one of my favorite hikes in the Moab area, and in my opinion, the best way to really experience Arches NP. The primitive loop requires a bit of scrambling, which makes it a little more interesting and weeds out some of the crowds. I recommend the extra spur up to Private Arch. It's not the most spectacular arch, but I like it.

A great little hike, suitable for all ages that are in good shape. We hiked in the fall, the temps were great but we still drank a lot of water. If you do the loop, "TAKE ENOUGH WATER". A great variety of sights scenes and vistas. The beautiful arches are just a part of this loop hike. There is a lot of wildlife to be seen as well as the arches and towers and walls.

This is one of the most beautiful trails that I''ve ever been on. Assuming that you''ve read the other reviews, here are some tips - to avoid the crowds you can start late in the afternoon (plan to get out by sunset), and go counterclockwise. This way you will save the best arches and the best views for last (most of the arches are on the left section of the loop), when the sun is setting and the shadows make everything even more dramatic, and you will stop seeing people halfway through the trail as most would have passed you on their way out. Feeling like you''re the only one there really addss to the experience. And on the way back you can see all the non-hiking old couples of all nationalities come out to see the sunset holding hands under the first arch.
