Courthouse Wash

Courthouse Wash Professional Review and Guide

"The Courthouse Wash tour loops through Arches National Park, which harbors all the redrock wonderment captured in postcards, movies, and especially one popular Saturday morning cartoon. As you make your way north, you’ll be entertained by the Arches’ distant features backdropped by the ever-present La Sal Mountains. Mid-route, you’ll follow the Willow Springs Road into the park and arrive at one of nature’s most curious sights: Balanced Rock.

The remaining 9 miles follows the park’s scenic drive past features that no doubt inspired The Roadrunner cartoon and ends with a wind-howling-through-the-helmet descent to the visitor center. Granted, there is a good chunk of pavement on this loop, but viewing Arches National Park from the seat of a bicycle creates an intimacy with nature that cannot be duplicated from behind a bug-splattered windshield. Tread: 16 miles of pebbly and sandy doubletrack, 10 miles of pavement."
