Bar M Loop

Bar M Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This route is fine for novices, even families with children. There are many small climbs and a couple of spots where the trail gets a tad technical, but this is indeed a ride for anyone scared by other trails in this book. It is short, near the highway, and easy to navigate. The scattered stone you see on the trail is chert, a form of agate used by Native Americans to produce tools and weapons. Trail surface: Hardpack, sand, rock, and packed loam on 4WD track."

Very good beginner and family ride. I did it with my 9 year old and 21 year old nephew. It was really good because it gave good thrills to the 9 year old, and yet had additional attached loops that let the 21 year old go off for more difficult and technical loops and still join back up with us later in the Bar M loop. If you are new to Mountain biking or with young kids, this is a winner. One caveat for younger riders, when done in the counter clockwise direction, the first 20 minutes are climbing. My 9 year old almost gave up. However, the downhills were more than enough to offset the climb in the beginning. He called the trail AWSOME!!
This trail was as advertised, a novice trail. It was generally fairly flat and wide, with very little elevation change. The uphill sections were generally matched immediately by nice downhill sections. We had read that this could be done with a child trailer in tow, but I wouldn't suggest that. My odometer said 7.7 miles just before we entered the parking lot.
Easy trail to do on the day of arrival. Good for beginners and kids. Good views of Arches.
