Beyond the confines of Utah’s national parks there are hundreds of outstanding canyons that rival those within the parks in their drama and beauty. Among these many canyons, Grand Gulch is one of the finest. Kane Gulch Ranger Station is the jumping-off point for the majority of visitors to Grand Gulch, and the passage of so many hikers’ boots keeps the trail well defined and easy to follow. This short trip to the Kane Gulch/Grand Gulch confluence, called The Junction, not only offers a fine introduction to Grand Gulch, it also affords access to the large cliff dwellings of Junction Ruins and several excellent campsites at the confluence.
