Kane County Drive-About Long Valley Junction to Glen Canyon Dam

Kane County Drive-About: Long Valley Junction to Glen Canyon Dam Professional Review and Guide

"Mostly a desert and canyon drive, offering glimpses of various area features along the southern part of the highway. This 115-mile drive is perhaps more notable for its several important and highly recommended sidetrips than for the scenery along the drive itself. It isn’t that there’s anything wrong with the scenery along the highway. In fact, the first 40-mile stretch, from Long Valley Junction to Kanab, is part of a designated state scenic byway. The stretch between Kanab and Big Water City is characterized by sagebrush flats and expansive views across a seemingly limitless desert landscape, broken only by dramatic sandstone cliffs. In order to catch some of the most interesting sights and most beautiful landscapes in this part of Utah, you need to explore beyond the highway. Special attractions: Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, Moqui Cavern, Kanab, and Vermilion Cliffs.

Nearby attractions: Johnson Canyon/Alton Amphitheater Scenic Backway, Paria River Valley Scenic Backway, Paria Canyon hikes, Cottonwood Canyon Scenic Backway, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and Lake Powell excursions."
