Packard and Wyman Lakes

Packard and Wyman Lakes Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Packard Lake makes a great day hike for kids and adults alike. Most people begin their adventure from Mirror Lake rather than the Highline trailhead, which is about 1 mile shorter, because better accommodations are found at Mirror Lake.

Wyman Lake features heavy timber and pretty lily pads clinging to the shore. Campsites are plentiful, but Wyman and Packard Lakes are located in a fi re restriction area; fuel wood may not be burned. Bring a stove if you want to cook any meals. Wyman receives heavy camping and angling use and frequently experiences winterkill, which usually means only fair fishing. This lake is stocked yearly."

Cool respite from the valley heat The High Line trail is full of hikers, dogs, horses, llamas. Many users in a land of many uses. Most everyone left behind as we passed Scudder lake . Made the turn to Packard and were pleased by the accuracy of the trail descriptions. This year is dry so not very much water in the meadows. Trail to Wilder and Wayman is good and easy to follow. Steep up and down between lakes. Trail to Packard is very faint and has lots of deadfall. (Got off and cleared some with my chainsaw in a can) Very pretty lake with not much shoreline and boggy area to the north. Not a lot of evidence of recent use at any of these lakes. Ride out was uneventful.
