Morat and Blue Lakes

Morat and Blue Lakes Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Morat Lakes receive heavy usage from both backpackers and day hikers. Fishing pressure remains somewhat moderate at these lakes because many anglers bypass the Morat Lakes and begin to fish at Blue Lake. However, large cutthroat trout can often be netted at Morat #1. Try the west end in the early morning with a small fly, and practice your stealth. The big ones are extremely wary.

Even though these lakes sit in rocky, timbered terrain, several good camping areas can be found. But remember, a fire restriction is often in effect at Naturalist Basin, and campfires can only be built at posted campsites. If your horse can make it up the hill that is encountered just before Morat Lakes, bring along some oats. Only limited feed is available. The only dependable source of spring water in the Morat or Blue Lake area is at Morat #2."
