Southern Utah presents challenges for hiking dogs. There are only 7.5 inches of rainfall a year in St. George, so it’s hard or nearly impossible to find a stream or water source to hike along. Additionally, southern Utah is the native habitat of snakes, including rattlesnakes and gopher snakes, to name only two. The sun scorches the earth and can blister your dog’s bare paws. And although you can wear a hat and sunscreen to help protect you from the elements, your pup is at your mercy. Please take care and carry extra water for him.
