North Wash to Marinus Canyon

North Wash to Marinus Canyon Professional Review and Guide

"South of Hanksville and west of the Dirty Devil River, between the sandy mesas of Trachyte and Cedar Points, UT 95 follows the course of North Wash en route to Lake Powell and Hite. UT 95 is one of the premier scenic drives in the Colorado Plateau region. It passes through nine distinctive layers of progressively older sedimentary formations, featuring colorful clay beds and massive sandstone formations carved into sheer and fluted cliffs, where great amphitheaters have been scooped out of the canyon walls.

Three major tributary canyons— Marinus, Butler, and Stair—join North Wash alongside UT 95. All of them offer grand scenery comparable to North Wash, yet few hikers bother to explore these cliff-bound gorges."
