Fern Lake Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This hike is a pretty one, but it seems like it’s uphill both ways. You’ll rise more than 800 feet traversing Hades Pass, and then you’ll give almost all that elevation back as you descend to Fern Lake. Even though the elevation gain is a mere 100 feet in just under 6 miles, level ground is unheard of. If you’re not forging up, you’re dropping down.
It’s not a long hike to Fern Lake, but it is a strenuous one. A well-traveled trail climbs more than 800 feet in just 2.0 miles to the top of Hades Pass. There you’ll have a “grand view” of Heart Lake, Grandaddy Lake, and countless acres of the pine-covered hills of the Rock Creek Drainage. Walk another 1.0 mile to a trail junction in the narrow piece of land between Betsy and Grandaddy Lakes."
