Robbers Roost Spring Trail

Robbers Roost Spring Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This spur trail runs just over 9 miles and ends at a high viewpoint over the North and Middle Forks of Robbers Roost Canyon, but there is plenty to see before you get there! The smooth, sandy trail runs around the head of the South Fork of Robbers Roost Canyon. After 5.7 miles, a track to the left leads down to the Robbers Roost Spring and the Cottrell cabin. A small cairn marks the turnoff, which leads 0.2 miles to a turnaround under a large cottonwood on the edge of the wash. The spring is slightly to the west of the end of the trail, down in the wash; you will see the wooden troughs that mark the spring.

Special Attractions: Area was historic hideout for Butch Cassidy and other outlaws; Viewpoint over both North and Middle Forks of Robbers Roost Canyon; Robbers Roost Spring and Cottrell cabin ruins. High-clearance vehicles are preferred, but not necessary. This trail is dirt roads, but may have rocks, grades, water crossings, or ruts that make clearance a concern in a normal passenger vehicle. The trail is fairly wide, so that passing is possible at almost any point along the trail. Mud is not a concern under normal weather conditions."
